‘More rain in 2 days than we’ve seen in 2 or 3 months’
Efforts to control the Jennings Creek fire in Sterling Forest continue this week after gusty winds caused flames to jump containment areas late Saturday night, according to officials. Roughly 88-percent of the fire has been contained as of Monday morning.
But relief is in sight this week, according to Hudson Valley Weather: “After a stretch of over 90 days that’s been exceptionally dry across the Hudson Valley, we’re tracking a storm system for late this week that could bring more rain in 2 days than we’ve seen in 2 or 3 months.”
And next week? Forecasters are watching the potential for snow in the upper elevations at the end of the week, and even a White Thanksgiving….
From the National Weather Service in Albany: The first round of rain showers across our area are expected to be overspread in our region Thursday morning before continuing through much the day and into the evening hours. “This should result in a decent rain event for our area.”
After this initial batch of rain on Thursday, “the question then becomes how much cold air can sag across our region,” NWS forecasters say. For now, there’s a “20- to 30-percent chance for moderate impacts due to snow load across the areas for the timeframe of Friday night through Saturday, with probabilities of 4" or more of snow remaining targeted in higher terrain locations as well.”
On Thanksgiving night, the forecast currently calls for 50-percent chance of rain and snow showers in the evening giving way to a wintry mix of precipitation in the overnight hours.
