Weekend Winter Storm Warning in effect

What: A winter storm warning is in effect from 7pm Saturday night through noon Sunday for heavy mixed precipitation totaling between 6 and 10 inches or more, and a “light glaze” of ice possible.

According to Hudson Valley Weather, “Snow will fall heavy at times overnight, with locally heavy snowfall amounts likely across areas along and north of I-84.” Snowfall rates may exceed one inch per hour. Wind gusts are expected to remain below 35 mph with isolated gusts of up to 40 mph.

Where: The entire Hudson Valley region. The winter storm watch area includes northwestern Connecticut and Massachusetts, and eastern New York including the eastern Catskills, Schoharie Valley, Helderbergs, Greater Capital Region, mid-Hudson Valley and the Taconics.

When: Saturday evening beginning around 7 to 9pm, lasting through 11am Sunday morning. The storm will peak overnight on Saturday before ending Sunday afternoon.

Impact: Travel could be difficult. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. NWS in New York advises: “Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution.”

The National Weather Service in Albany will have another weather briefing at 6pm on Saturday.
