Heavy rain, damaging winds follow winter storm

On the heels of the first snowstorm of the season comes another energetic weather event – this time: 1 to 3 inches of rain with wind gusts up to 60mph, flooding and potential power outages.

“A multi-hazard event is expected to impact the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, NYC and Long Island from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday with widespread heavy rain and damaging winds,” according to the New York State Division of Homeland Security.

With over a foot of snow on the ground in many areas, flood watches are in affect throughout the entire region.

Here is the latest forecast:

• Flood watch for the entire Hudson Valley, Capital Region, NYC and Long Island from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon
  

• Precipitation is expected to spread over the region from Southwest to northeast between 1-3pm on Tuesday, and ending on Wednesday morning between 8-10am
  
  

• Precipitation may begin as a brief burst of snow north of Interstate 84. Snow may linger in the Catskills with 2-4 inches of snow possible before changing to rain Tuesday evening
  

• Expected rainfall totals range from 1 to 3 inches with the highest amounts expected in the Eastern Catskills, Mid-Hudson Valley and Litchfield Hills
  

• Widespread minor to moderate river flooding likely
  

• Potential for flash flooding in urban and poor drainage areas on Tuesday night
  

• Strong to damaging southeast winds averaging between 20-40mph with gusts up to 60mph. A High Wind Watch has been issued for eastern Columbia County. Peak wind gusts will occur Tuesday evening into Wednesday afternoon
  
  

• Power outages due to high winds and downed trees are possible
