Protecting wetlands and streams is vital to safeguarding water resources, but gaps in federal and state regulations leave many wetlands and streams vulnerable to degradation and loss. The Supreme Court’s recent Sackett ruling significantly rolled back federal protection for wetlands and streams. New York State is meanwhile set to expand some protection for wetlands, but major gaps remain, especially for smaller wetlands, seasonal streams, and adjacent buffers around these sensitive water resources. Beatriz Cortez: The Volcano That Left: Beatriz Cortez will present new and recent large-scale works for her first solo museum presentation on the East Coast + Ugo Rondinone: the sun and the moon. Set against Schunnemunk and Storm King Mountains, Ugo Rondinone’s the sun and the moon, comprises a pair of 16-feet tall delicate circles fashioned from cast-bronze tree branches. The exhibition is built upon the principles of two celestial forces representing contradictory, codependent, and complementary values. The sculptures will be accompanied by two interactive artworks, your age and my age and the age of the sun and your age and my age and the age of the moon in the Museum Building’s main floor gallery + Outlooks: RA Walden: RA Walden will present a site-specific installation for the 10th iteration of Storm King's Outlooksprogram. Titled access points // or // alternative states of matter(ing), the project will depict the electron configurations of the six most common elements on earth: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, and sulfur. Developed in collaboration with a distinguished committee of scholars, “Black Americans, Civil Rights and the Roosevelts, 1932-1962” centers the historical voices of many Black community leaders, wartime service members, and ordinary citizens who engaged the Roosevelt administration directly and who pushed for progress. Within this context, the exhibit examines the political evolution of both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt regarding racial justice. The exhibit features documents and artifacts – many on display for the first time – from the Roosevelt Library’s rich holdings and from private collections nationwide.
