Crews to clean-up roads in Dutchess for Earth Day

 

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Dutchess County Public Works (DPW) Highway Division will again dedicate several days to highway cleanup as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the county roadway system. Starting Thursday, April 20, and continuing April 21, April 24 and April 25, DPW Highway crews will focus on litter cleanup on some of the county’s most highly trafficked roadways.

DPW Commissioner Robert Balkind said, “Our crews work year-round to maintain our highway system, ensuring safe and beautiful roadways throughout Dutchess County. This Earth Day, and throughout the year, we appreciate residents’ and volunteers’ efforts to help us keep Dutchess clean and green.”

Some of the county roads scheduled for the four-day cleanup include:

• West Road (CR 71) in Pleasant Valley

• North Avenue (CR 72) in Pleasant Valley

• South Quaker Lane (CR 16) in Hyde Park

• Slate Quarry Road (CR 19) in Rhinebeck

• Kerley Corners Road (CR 78) in Red Hook

• River Road (CR 103) in Red Hook/Rhinebeck

• North Clove Road (CR 9) in Union Vale

• Halls Corners Road (CR 24) in Union Vale/Dover

• Chestnut Ridge Road (CR 23) in Union Vale/Washington

• Old Route 22 (CR 6) in Dover

• Dog Tail Corners Road (CR 22) in Wingdale

• Beekman Poughquag Road (CR 7) in Beekman

• Greenhaven Road (CR 8) in Beekman

• Sylvan Lake Road (CR 10) in Beekman

• Bruzgul Road (CR 21) in Union Vale/Dover

• Carpenter Road (CR 29) in East Fishkill

• Old Hopewell Road (CR 28) in Wappinger/East Fishkill

• Noxon Road (CR 21) in LaGrange

Additionally, several municipal highway departments have shared information on local Earth Day clean-up efforts, including:

• Town of Dover – April 15, Townwide clean-up day

• Town of Pleasant Valley – April 15, Roadside clean-up

• Town of Poughkeepsie – Volunteer groups will be picking up trash throughout the town, including New Hamburg Road (April 15), Marist College (April 19), Channingville Road (April 22), Route 44 in Rochdale (April 22), Manchester Road and Arlington town center (April 22), Sheafe Road (April 23), and Red Oaks Mill Park (April 23). Residents can contact Town of Poughkeepsie Conservation Advisory Commission at pamkingsley9cac@gmail.com to participate or coordinate other areas for cleanup.

• Town of Clinton – Friday, April 21, Curbside litter pick-up day.

• Town of Stanford – Saturday, April 22, 9am-1pm, Trash bags available for pick-up at Roosters Hardware. Filled bags can be dropped off at the Town Transfer Station for free.

Residents should contact their local municipality for additional information on trash pick-up or other clean-up opportunities. Organizations and residents who are interested in helping keep Dutchess County’s roadways clean and scenic can participate in the County’s Adopt-A-Highway program. Organizations are encouraged to apply by calling (845) 486-2925. The New York State Department of Transportation and several local municipalities also offer Adopt-A-Road programs for state and local roadways.
