What history lies in some of the oldest cemeteries in Philipstown? Join Putnam History Museum for a special tour to unearth the stories buried in the Mountain Avenue and Nelsonville Cemeteries. Learn the stories of the deceased, from the first European settlers in Philipstown to the 19th century immigrants who listed their countries of origin in the headstone, Civil War veterans, poets, and more! PHM staff will also dig into the hidden meaning behind the cemetery’s symbolism, and what it says about the person interred. Guests will meet at the at the Mountain Avenue Cemetery Gate on Craigside Drive behind Haldane Elementary School. When author Debra Bruno discovered that her Hudson Valley ancestors had been some of the fiercest advocates of slavery, she knew she had to learn more. Her new book, A Hudson Valley Reckoning: Discovering the Forgotten History of Slaveholding in My Dutch American Family is a combination of memoir, history, and many unanswerable questions. Historian Myra Young Armstead said it will "read like a cannon blast for those unfamiliar with this difficult past." Bridge Music 15th Season

Joseph Bertolozzi's Bridge Music is a unique sound-art installation featuring the Mid Hudson Bridge as the instrument itself. It was created by sampling the sounds of bridge’s surfaces (guard rails, girders, etc.) with various mallets and using those sounds to compose the music. No processing was used, you hear the Mid-Hudson Bridge itself. The resulting album reached the Billboard Top Twenty Classical and Classical Crossover Charts in 2009. Dating to medieval times. Martinmas is a procession of lanterns marking the end of the harvest and start of winter.
