Afterglow: Frederic Church and the Landscape of Memory

The Halloween Tavern Trail: Spooky Stories from Old Dutchess

Dutchess County Historian Will Tatum will share a carefully curated selection of stories drawn from old history publications, including the infamous 1880s Smith History of Dutchess, where the line between fact, fiction, and the supernatural was blurry indeed. As always, your host will offer his own brand of commentary on these tales, and he might even share some of his own spooky experiences from 12 years of wandering through the county's oldest sections. Bridge Music 15th Season

Mid Hudson Bridge, Route 44-55, Poughkeepsie
Joseph Bertolozzi's Bridge Music is a unique sound-art installation featuring the Mid Hudson Bridge as the instrument itself. It was created by sampling the sounds of bridge’s surfaces (guard rails, girders, etc.) with various mallets and using those sounds to compose the music. No processing was used, you hear the Mid-Hudson Bridge itself. The resulting album reached the Billboard Top Twenty Classical and Classical Crossover Charts in 2009. Listening Stations are found on the pedestrian sidewalk and it can also be heard broadcasting 24/7 on 95.3FM in Johnson-Iorio Park in Highland and Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie. bridgemusic.info

History Hike: Foundry Cove

Putnam History Museum, 63 Chestnut Street, Cold Spring
An all-ages walking tour from the Putnam History Museum through Foundry Cove, with a focus on the Indigenous history of the area. Staff will lead visitors from the PHM’s exhibition Indigenous Peoples in Putnam County, on a guided tour into Scenic Hudson’s West Point Foundry Preserve, where visitors will learn about Indigenous use of the land and water in the area for thousands of years. This curator-led tour will begin at the museum’s recent exhibition, and visitors will have the opportunity to view Indigenous artifacts, including projectile points, axe-heads, scrapers, and pestles; as well as several incredible replicas, including a dug-out canoe, pottery, a deer-toe rattle, and mortar. The Goddess Party: The Parting of the Veils

The show features TGP's impressive 40-women, Hudson-Valley-based art choir backed by a dynamic, all-female six-piece rock band which includes Cristina Martinez (Boss Hog) on drums and Betsy Wright (ExHex) on guitar. Audiences can expect to hear a wide variety of musical genres, from original compositions to Bulgarian field songs to punk anthems by the likes of Le Tigre and PJ Harvey. The performance is enhanced with thematic visuals, choreographed movements, immersive lighting, and custom-designed costumes and props. Have you ever wondered what some of the ruins within Mills and Norrie State Parks might be? The beautiful park land was once the setting for grand Hudson Riverfront estates. This guided hike will lead visitors through the park, exploring the history of three historic estates: from Staatsburgh's founding as a gentleman's farm in the 1700s to the development of The Point and Stonehurst estates in the 19th century. History Hike: Mt. Nimham

Join the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County and the Putnam History Museum for a history hike of Mount Nimham in Putnam County. Mount Nimham has a long history from its early days as home to the Wappinger people to the construction of the Nimham Fire Tower in 1940 by the CCC. Lead by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, this hike will explore the ways that the mountain’s past has played a role in its environmental present. We’ll get to see some stone chambers, and the Putnam History Museum will also touch on the Indigenous history of the area, including the namesake of the mountain, Sachem Daniel Nimham. This event is part of the Putnam History Museum’s Native American Heritage Weekend 2024, made possible, in part, with grant support from Humanities New York. Handle key artifacts such as bark baskets, cups, bowls, stone axes, spoons, bows and arrows, animal pelts, and leather, and discover the techniques archaeologists, historians and anthropologists use to merge their knowledge into an accurate picture of the past. Drew Shuptar-Rayvis (Pekatawas MakataweU “Black Corn”) holds a cum laude Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology from Western Connecticut State University and a Certificate Degree in Archaeology from Norwalk Community College. A true American of the mid-Atlantic region, his family includes Indigenous Pocomoke heritage, Pennsylvania Dutch, Welsh, Swiss, English, Scots-Irish, Boyko Ukrainian and Ashkanazi/ Sephardic Jewish, he honors all of his ancestors as a practicing living historian and regularly participates in colonial era reenactments, interpretations and public educational events.
