The Hudson Eye presents RAWdance's "Pairings"
Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 7:30pm
Cost of admission: $5
428 State St, Hudson

The Hudson Eye presents RAWdance’s Pairings, an informal evening of connections and confrontations through contemporary dance, featuring artist Chris Black and company Ouro and BorosDance alongside RAWdance. From a duet of two men in love (or lust) inspired by a found historical image, to an abstract physical exploration of polarity, oppositional impulses, directions, and forces, to a glimpse into a personal connection between a dance maker and a place frozen in memory, Pairings celebrates the idea of dance as a bridge, playing in and expanding the idea of what a duet can be and what it can evoke. Bridges in their own rights, the dance makers on the program all share a bicoastal artistic identity as current Hudson Valley residents with history in San Francisco. http://rawdance.org/events/pairings-at-the-hudson-eye/

Nicole Cherubini, Susan Jennings, and Michelle Segre
Opening Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 3-7pm
Tanja Grunert, Princess Beatrix House, 21 Prospect Avenue, Hudson
Unified by their assertive material choices, each artist forges a distinct visual language. By stretching the limits of their respective mediums, they uncover a deeply personal sense of visual intuition and idiosyncratic delight. Cherubini challenges the notion of purpose through her works in clay, photography, and collaboration. She manipulates materials tied to utility, reorienting their purpose through a dynamic practice. Jennings constructs layered compositions and sculptures from found domestic objects. Her aptitude for sourcing vivid supplies lays the foundation for a tactile and singular painting vocabulary. Segre combines wire, yarn, ceramic components, and biomatter into expansive sculptural forms. Her pieces recall cosmological structures, playful and complex. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with an essay by Matt Moment. On view through Sunday, September 28, 2025. tanja@tanjagrunert.com

Forgotten Drinks of Colonial New England
Sturday, September 6, 2025 from 5-7pm
Cost of admission: $60
Putnam History Museum, 63 Chestnut Street, Cold Spring
Join the Putnam History Museum for a talk and tasting of three Revolutionary-Era drinks! As schoolchildren, many of us learned an idealized version of life in colonial America—a history that rarely touches on alcohol. Yet ale, beer, wine, cider, and spirits were swilled in staggering quantities during our earliest days by everyone from tweens to the founding fathers. Colonial New England’s drinking culture drew on and extended the region’s abundance of produce, from apples, berries, wildflowers, and hops to molasses and spices. Author and drinks writer Corin Hirsch will explore the origins and composition of early American beverages during an interactive lecture and tasting of three proto-cocktails that resurrect lost flavors. Corin Hirsch is a Vermont-based food and drinks writer whose work has appeared in The Guardian, Wine Enthusiast, Eater, Serious Eats, and Yankee.com, as well as in or on various newspapers, radio stations, and podcasts. She spent many years (and ate millions of calories) as a newspaper dining critic, most recently at Newsday. Her book, Forgotten Drinks of Colonial New England: From Flips and Rattle-Skulls to Switchel and Spruce Beer, was published by The History Press, and she continues to research, write, and speak about early American foodways. She runs several culinary-focused websites and publishes a weekly newsletter, Northern Appetites. Pre-registration is required, as this event is likely to sell out. You must be 21 or over to attend this event. https://www.putnamhistorymuseum.org/events/forgotten-drinks-of-colonial-new-england/
